Co-Owner, Chapel Hill Creamery
Portia McKnight, co-owner of Chapel Hill Creamery, milks Jersey cows and makes cheese in Orange County, NC. She and partner Florence Hawley started Chapel Hill Creamery in 2001 with the goal of providing excellent, sustainably produced cheeses to local central NC customers. Milk quality and herd health are outstanding, and the herd welfare is certified yearly by A Greener World. The Creamery has seen 2 expansions as sales and product mix have grown. You can find CHC products at local farmer’s markets, and at retail stores and restaurants through the southeast. Chapel Hill Creamery also raises whey fed pork and markets pork to local restaurants and farmers markets. In addition, the farm boasts a working ox named Fryer, and a 6-month-old ox-in-training named Bulldog.
